In the red dust of the Australian outback lives Collie, a timid cow with one small difference—a single brown spot. Teased by the herd and unsure of her place, Collie believes she’ll never belong. But when she meets Edgar, a bold little egret with the same distinctive mark, everything changes. Through friendship, courage, and kindness, Collie and Edgar discover that being different isn’t a weakness—it’s their greatest strength.

Collie's Big Adventure is a heartwarming and visually stunning picture book written by a passionate queer primary school teacher and brought to life by Brisbane illustrator, Maggie. Inspired by real-life moments watching egrets and cattle in the wild, this story is a celebration of inclusion, resilience, and community.

With strong links to the Australian Curriculum and social-emotional learning themes, it’s as powerful in the classroom as it is on the bookshelf.

About the Author

Jake Eve is a Redlands City local, primary school teacher and passionate children's author who believes every child deserves to feel seen, valued and celebrated. With a Master's degree specialising in Autism and Special Education, Jake has dedicated his career to creating inclusive classrooms where differences are embraced as strengths. Away from the classroom, he is a multiple-time World Champion rope skipper, using sport to inspire confidence, resilience and belonging in young people.

Jake has woven these passions into his Collie and Pals series, where lovable Australian animals each have their own unique "ailment" from situational mutism and ADHD to anxiety, autism and other differences. Through adventure, friendship and humour, each story celebrates the idea that our greatest differences can become our greatest strengths, helping children build empathy while recognising the value in themselves and others. The first book was brought to life by Brisbane artist Maggie Lipinska, whose vibrant illustrations perfectly capture the warmth, wonder and heart of the Collie and Pals world.

Following the heartbreaking loss of his younger brother, Dylan, in 2026, Jake created the Dylan the Dingo series as a way to keep his legacy alive and help children understand and navigate grief in an age-appropriate way. Written especially for Dylan's two young children, the stories ensure they will always have new adventures to share with their dad, celebrating his kindness, courage and cheeky spirit, while inviting children everywhere to remember that the people we love continue to shape our stories long after they're gone.
